How to Get Free Drinks on a Carnival Cruise (Real Ways, No Sketchy Stuff)

“Free drinks” on Carnival is real, but it’s not magic. It’s usually one of these:

  • Casino perk after earning points
  • Casino offer that starts immediately (as soon as the casino is open and you’re playing)
  • The best offer: coverage that functions like the full drink package, so you can order around the ship, not just in the casino

This post is the shortcut. We’ve lived the confusion so you don’t have to.

Trust note: We share what we’ve actually experienced and what we’d do again. No fluff.

What “free drinks” can mean on Carnival (the 3 versions)

1) Earned casino perk: Drinks On Us after you hit enough points

Carnival’s Drinks On Us! is the points-based path. Once you earn enough casino points, drinks are free while you play. It includes cocktails, beer, wine, and also sodas and other nonalcoholic drinks – again, while you’re playing.

This is the “I earned it onboard” method.

2) Casino offers: Free drinks in the casino, starting immediately (no waiting for points)

This is a separate, better situation than “earn enough points.”

If you have a casino offer that includes free casino drinks, it usually means:

  • As soon as the casino is open and you’re actively playing, your drinks in the casino are covered.
  • You do not have to wait to hit a points threshold because the offer already includes the perk.

Practical note from real life: these casino-drink offers often cover more than just alcohol. People commonly get sodas and other nonalcoholic drinks at the casino too, and depending on what that bar stocks, that can include things like energy drinks.

3) The best version: Offers that cover drinks around the ship (like a full package)

This is the one you want if your goal is “I can get drinks at dinner, by the pool, at bars, and in lounges.”

It’s usually marketed as an “everywhere” style offer, not just casino-only. When you get this, it functions like the package experience.

If you’ve ever had this, you know: it changes the cruise.

If you have package-style coverage, here’s how it actually works (and how to use it even if you’re not a heavy drinker)

The daily limit

Carnival’s CHEERS! program allows up to 15 alcoholic drinks per day (they can stop service earlier at their discretion).

The cheat code for non-big drinkers

If you are not drinking 15 cocktails a day, you can still “win” by using the package for what you’d otherwise buy nonstop:

  • Coke
  • Sparkling water
  • Virgin frozen drinks for pool vibes and photos
  • Drinks with dinner
  • Coffee drinks you can get at certain bars

Important detail: under CHEERS!, sodas and other applicable nonalcoholic beverages are unlimited and do not count toward the 15 alcoholic limit.

Real-world note: virgin specialty drinks (virgin pina coladas, virgin daiquiris, fancy mocktails) can be treated differently depending on how they ring up on that ship. If you’re watching your counts, keep an eye on your Sail and Sign screen and don’t assume every virgin frozen drink behaves like a basic soda.

Where you can use it onboard (what people actually care about)

If your offer acts like the full package, you can typically order at:

  • Pool bars
  • Most bars and lounges
  • Casino bar service
  • Main Dining Room (yes, dinner drinks are included)

Also: some food venues sell soda (example: we’ve seen soda available at places like the pizza spot on Mardi Gras). If it’s scanning as part of your package, great. If not, move on and get it at a bar.

Alchemy Bar: quick clarification

This isn’t a “vibe” thing. Alchemy is a cocktail bar. It’s not the spot for plain soda service the way a standard bar is. If you want soft drinks, go to a different bar.

Private island reality check: your package does not work off the ship

Do not expect your onboard package to work once you’re off the boat, even at Carnival’s private destinations like Celebration Key. Carnival’s own CHEERS! policy materials and multiple cruise coverage sources report that onboard drink packages do not apply in ports of call, including Celebration Key.

What to do instead (this saves money and annoyance)

  • Get your soda or sparkling water on the ship before you get off.
  • If your package includes cans, grab one and bring it with you for the excursion.
  • Stock your room fridge with what you’ll want later so you’re not paying “I’m thirsty” prices.

Ordering rules that surprise people

One at a time

CHEERS! is one drink at a time per person.
So no, you can’t walk up and say “give me five Cokes.” You’re getting one per person per order.

Spacing and limits

Some ships enforce spacing more strictly than others, especially for alcohol. Don’t build your plan around “gaming the timing.” Build it around what you actually want to drink.

Step-by-step: how to check if you have free drinks, and who it covers

This is the part that saves people the most confusion.

  1. Log into your Carnival account.
  2. Go to your offers area (often tied to VIFP and casino offers).
  3. Open the offer details and look for language like:
    • Drinks On Us! (often casino while playing, sometimes points-based)
    • Any “casino drinks included” language (typically starts when casino is open and you’re playing)
    • Any “everywhere” language (the package-style dream scenario)
  4. Check who is included. This matters a lot:
    • You only
    • You + 1 companion
    • Everyone in the cabin
    • Adults in the stateroom only
If you don’t verify this, you can accidentally create a very expensive surprise.
  5. Screenshot the offer terms and keep it on your phone. If there’s confusion onboard, Guest Services will care more about the written terms than your memory.

Are there free drink offers that aren’t casino offers?

Sometimes, but they’re not the common path.

  • VIFP loyalty perks can include limited drink freebies depending on tier and sailing length (not a full package, more like a perk).
  • Carnival also sells value packages, but that’s “discounted,” not “free.”

If your goal is truly free drinks, casino marketing and casino play are usually what drive the big offers.

Put this last: the earned casino points perk

If you’re chasing “free drinks” in the most literal sense, the classic route is earning enough casino play to unlock Drinks On Us! and then your casino drinks are free while you play.

Just keep expectations clean:

  • Casino-only perks are not the same thing as everywhere-on-the-ship coverage.

Bottom line

There are levels:

  • Free drinks in casino after earning points = nice
  • Casino offer with drinks in casino from day one = better
  • Offer that acts like the full package around the ship = best
